Conjunctivitis in children and adults can have various causes. Many viral conjunctivitis cases do not require treatment and heal on their own. However, other cases, especially recurrent conjunctivitis, need to be investigated and treated.
Viral conjunctivitis is contagious and can spread quickly without hygiene measures (e.g., hand disinfection).
